IBERIAN MUSIC IN THE MIDDLE AGES

The main topic of the course will be Iberian Music of the Middle Ages: 13th c. monody (Cantigas de Amigo, Cantigas de Amor by Don Dinis, Cantigas de Santa Maria), the polyphony of the Codex Calixtinus, Las Huelgas and the music of the Llibre Vermell of Montserrat.

* LESSONS are INDIVIDUAL, and concern both technique and interpretation within historical performance practice. Lessons are open to auditors.

WORKSHOPS FOR ENSEMBLES

VOCAL ENSEMBLE – Giovannangelo De Gennaro 

Repertoire: CODEX CALIXTINUS, the oldest polyphonic musical repertoire from the French area (mid-twelfth century). One of the most important manuscript for the study of medieval culture: it contains detailed informations on the daily life of pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela and on the cult of St. James.

ENSEMBLE FOR WINDS AND PERCUSSIONS – Goffredo Degli Esposti / Enea Sorini 
Repertoire will follow theme of Iberian music

ENSEMBLE CLASS FOR SMALL GROUPS – Gabriele Russo / Peppe Frana  
Repertoire will follow theme of Iberian music

TRADITIONAL MUSIC ENSEMBLE – Giordano Ceccotti

Repertoire will follow theme of Galician and French traditional music

SEGOVIA MANUSCRIPT – Crawford Young

Textless works late 15th-c. for instruments in two- three- and four-parts.

With scholars and musicologists who will Sstudy the different aspects of the music of the pre-Renaissance period

Improvisation Lessons

Does improvising seem like an almost magical concept? These lessons will teach you that the idea you have is not correct.
